True Botanicals | Chebula Active Serum Review

Hey Beauty Lovers!

True Botanicals is a relatively new luxury brand that offers effective anti-aging skincare products.

I first noticed the brand when I saw Olivia Wilde as their brand ambassador. I absolutely love Olivia, so I knew that I had to try out one of their products.

Once I got to the website, I decided to look into their mission and back story.

The True Botanicals' mission is all about sustainability and natural-biocompatibility. All their products are formulated with botanical ingredients, many of which have organic origins. They also leave out all the unnecessary fillers from their ingredients list.

All the products are pretty expensive, so I only chose one product to review.

They have a nice range of skincare products, you can actually put together an entire routine from their website, but I was in need of an anti-aging serum, so I chose the Chebula Active Serum to test out.

Spoiler Alert: If you are looking for a single product that will help soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles, this review is for you!

Firm Sagging Skin Quickly with These Two Must-Have Products from Fresh

Hello Beauty Lovers!

I have gotten a few requests from you asking me to recommend skincare products that will help firm up sagging skin quickly, so here we are with two products that will give you visible results within a month!

The problem with anti-aging products is that they work very slowly. It can take 6 months before seeing any progress from your favorite moisturizer or serum. That's just way too long for most people, and the long waiting period can even be discouraging to skincare addicts like me.

Before you give up all hope and turn to cosmetic surgery for that facelift look, take a look at this duo from Fresh, you will be amazed by your results!

Better Than Botox? Anti-Aging Skincare Routine featuring Dr. Zenovia Skincare

Hey Beauty Lovers!

Two months ago, I put together an acne clearing skincare routine featuring Dr. Zenovia Skincare products. In that post, I promised to give you a full anti-aging routine using products from the brand, and today I am fulfilling that promise!

Finding anti-aging skincare products that actually work can be a daunting task. You spend over $100 on products that have been recommended by your local Sephora salesperson, only to be disappointed when you try them out on your skin. Not only have you wasted a ton of money, but you are probably frustrated that your skin concerns haven't been addressed.

Don't feel bad, we've all been there!

I'm here to tell you that there are actually products out there that work to keep your skin looking youthful and vibrant! Don't get me wrong, anti-aging skincare products won't give you the same results as cosmetic surgery and botox, but there are products that can help you age gracefully and beautifully.

Dr. Zenovia is a board-certified dermatologist that specializes in skincare for every stage of life. All her products are formulated with her innovative REG-ulate360 Complex™. This fantastic technology helps address the underlying hormone imbalance in aging and acne-prone skin. Dr. Zenovia has helped countless women both in her clinic and through her medical-grade clinical skincare brand.

I'm not going to lie... Dr. Zenovia Skincare is a high-end skincare brand that comes along with a high-end price range. However, these products actually work and you will be able to see results within 1-2 months (this has been my experience, your mileage may vary depending on your age and skin concerns).

I put together a full skincare routine that will provide amazing anti-aging benefits using only Dr. Zenovia skincare products. I have personally used all the products mentioned in this post, and I stand behind them 100%! Try them out for yourself and then let me know how much you love them too in the comments section down below.

Ok, let's get into the routine...

Erno Laszlo Skincare Review

>>Erno Laszlo Skincare<<

Erno Laszlo, a famous skincare brand used by the likes of Marylin Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Jackie O, has been around since 1927.

The founder of the brand, Dr. Erno Laszlo, prescribed skincare routines for his clients and introduced the double cleanse to Americans. It's kind of funny to think that Caroline Hirons claims to have made the double cleansing method popular when it has been in America before she was born!

Interestingly, before Erno Laszlo introduced his oil cleanser and bar soap duo, most American women would use cold cream to remove their makeup (think Pond's cream). Dr. Laszlo was indeed ahead of his time, just imagine what he would say if he saw how commonplace the double cleansing method has become all over the world!

In addition to the double cleanse, Dr. Laszlo specially formulated products to treat the skin concerns of the elite. From American celebrities to princesses in Europe, the rich and famous flocked to Dr. Laszlo for his unique products.

Fortunately, Erno Laszlo skincare is now available to the public, and we can all enjoy the fantastic creations of Dr. Laszlo. The brand is now sold at high-end department stores and Sephora, with mostly the same formulations as the original products.

Erno Laszlo (the brand, not Dr. Laszlo) was kind enough to send me a few products to test and review, and I have been loving everything they sent.

Before you continue reading this post, please note that Erno Laszlo products are pricey. This is a luxury skincare brand, and the prices are quite high. If you enjoy luxury products, then this is the post for you!

Let's get right to the products...

>>Hydra Therapy Foaming Cleanse<<

The Erno Laszlo Hydra Therapy Foaming Cleanse ($50) is a very rich, creamy cleanser that is perfect for dry skin.

If you do suffer from dry skin, you may know how hard it actually is to find a hydrating cleanser. Most cleansers on the market are formulated with harsh ingredients that completely strip the skin. This cleanser is so nourishing, and the fragrance reminds me of the spa.

Key Ingredients:
  • Shea Butter- super nourishing and rich in fatty acids
  • Rice + Pomegranate Blend- hydrates the skin, gives it a glow, and acts as an anti-oxidant
  • Marula Oil- healing and moisturizing
The cleanser itself is thick and creamy (that's what she said!), but it washes off the skin very easily. I noticed that my skin felt smooth, hydrated, and healthy when I started using this cleanser daily. I even noticed a glow to my skin that wasn't coming from my other skincare products!

I am overall really impressed with this cleanser, and I love that they included rice in the ingredients list. As a long-time K-Beauty lover, I have found that rice in skincare does wonders for my complexion. It helps keep my skin smooth, bright, and my pores tight. It really does bring the cleanser to a whole new level.

10/10 I recommend getting this cleanser if you want hydrated and bright skin.

Ingredients:
Aqua (Water/Eau), Myristic Acid, Glycerin, PEG-20, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Glyceryl Stearate Se, Stearic Acid, Lauric Acid, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Chloride, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Ethylhexylglycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), Chlorphenesin, Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil, Tetrasodium Edta, Urea, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Saccharide Hydrolysate, Alanine, Glycine, Magnesium Aspartate, Punica Granatum Bark Extract, Butylene Glycol, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Benzyl Alcohol, Creatine, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Dehydroacetic Acid, Linalool, Limonene.

>>Hydra-Therapy Boost Serum<<

The Erno Lazlo Hydra-Therapy Boost Serum ($108) is the most unique serum I have ever tried, and I'm a beauty blogger!

The serum has a gel-like texture, but if you look closely, you will see that there are actually drops of all throughout the product. The beauty of the serum is that there are oils suspended in the gel so that they are activated only when applied to your skin! The gel deeply hydrates your skin while the oil droplets deeply nourish your skin at the same time.

Key Ingredients:
  • Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil- hydrates and nourishes the skin
  • Crithmum Maritimum Extract- healing and protects the skin barrier
I noticed a difference in the hydration of my skin and my skin barrier felt so much stronger after a few weeks of consistent use. It feels kind of cold when first applied, and the gel almost feels like aloe. I have to say that this serum is very soothing, and I really enjoyed using it daily.

I especially love using this serum under makeup. It gives my skin a nice slip and keeps it hydrated, even under layers of face makeup. It also has a pretty minimal ingredients list and it smells amazing. I'm not sure why this serum isn't more popular, it's really a fantastic product for dry and mature skin types.

Again, I would definitely recommend this product. So far I am 2/2 for Erno Laszlo recommendations.

Ingredients:
Water (Aqua/Eau), Glycerin, Isononyl Isononanoate, Betaine, Pentylene Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Carbomer, Sodium Hydroxide, Crithmum Maritimum Extract, Disodium Edta, Amodimethicone, Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum (Fragrance).

>>Hydra-Therapy Memory Sleep Mask<<

The Erno Laszlo Hydra-Therapy Memory Sleep Mask ($44 for the mini shown, $108 for the full-size) is the best sleeping mask I have ever used.

I honestly hate that I love this product so much because it is so expensive! However, a little really goes a long way with this sleeping mask. If you don't know what a sleep mask is, you apply them after the rest of your skincare products (except oils) before bed. They work overnight to transform your skin into a more dewy, hydrated, radiant version.

This sleep mask is called a memory sleep mask because the gel looks completely undisturbed every time you open the jar. It really is very cool looking, and I even tried completely swirling everything in the jar to see if it would go back to its original state. Spoiler alert: it did!

Key Ingredients:
  • Prickly Pear, Green Ginger and Mugwort Extracts- deeply hydrating
  • Winged Kelp Extract- rich in fatty acids to help the skin feel resilient and firm
  • Our fruit-derived dual-action Recovery Complex- brightens the skin
Prickly pear, ginger, and mugwort are all ingredients that can be found in the best K-Beauty products on the market right now. I love that they incorporate all three in one fantastic product! The gel feels amazing on the skin, and it doesn't feel as heavy as some other masks I've used in the past.

My skin fell completely in love with this sleep mask, and I need to get my hands on another jar of this ASAP. You absolutely need one of these in your routine, even if you don't have dry skin!

Again, I 100% recommend this! Erno Laszlo, you are killing me with all these fantastic products!

Ingredients:
Water (Aqua/Eau), Glycerin, Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, PEG-240/HDI/Copolymer Bis-Decyltetradeceth-20 Ether, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Dimethiconol, Chlorphenesin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Polyacrylate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Disodium EDTA, Parfum (Fragrance), Algae Extract, Citric Acid, Trideceth-6, Potassium Laurate, Artemisia Absinthium Extract, Artemisia Vulgaris Extract, BHT, CI 16035 (Red 40), Opuntia Ficus-Indica Stem Extract, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Leaf Extract, Benzyl Alcohol.

>>Final Thoughts<<

If you are looking for a fantastic skincare line that will help hydrate and brighten your skin, check out the Hydra-Therapy products from Erno Laszlo.

There is a reason they are such a well-known luxury brand, their skincare products actually work! I don't think I could ever have a bad thing to say about any of these products. Well, ok. If I must. If you do have acne-prone skin, you need to be careful about the serum. The oils can be a little heavy and you may end up with a breakout.

Okay, no more negativity.

If I had to rate these products from most to least favorite, it would be Sleep Mask, Serum, and then Cleanser. If you could only afford to get one of these, I highly recommend the sleep mask!

I hope you enjoyed this post! If you are looking for more of my fantastic skincare reviews, check out the Skincare Reviews Series at the top of this page.

The Top 10 Skincare Products That Are Worth The Splurge

>>Are Expensive Products Better?<<

Yes... and no.

There is this common misconception that the more expensive a product is, the more effective it will be. Not every product sold at Sephora is worthy of your hard-earned dollars!

I actually had a really hard time coming up with this list of the top 10 skincare products that are worth the splurge. I also did not randomly choose the most expensive products at Sephora for my list.

Instead, I went through the entire skincare section at Sephora and chose products that I loved but were expensive for the average consumer.

I am not rich. I cannot really afford a single-use sheet mask that is more than $1 on a regular basis. However, when I want to treat myself, I will purchase products that are actually worth the price tag.

Are you ready for my Top 10 Splurge-Worthy products?

Let's go...

>>Skincare Products Worth The Splurge<<

1. Fresh Black Tea Firming and De-Puffing Eye Cream ($68)- I really enjoy the Fresh Rose line, but the Black Tea Firming Eye Cream really stands out for me. This eye cream transformed the skin around my eyes! I went from dry under-eyes to smooth skin in less than a week with this eye cream. I don't have puffy skin under my eyes, but I did need nourishment desperately. This cream is one of my favorite eye creams, and the $68 is worth it for me. The little jar lasts for months, so don't think that you will have to spend that much on a monthly basis. You will likely only need to purchase this product twice a year. Overall a fantastic product that I recommend to everyone.

2. Caudalie Vinosculpt Lift & Firm Body Cream ($45)- I just started using this cream and I am already in love! If you have loose skin from rapid weight gain and/or weight loss, you may already know the struggle of finding a great firming cream. I have tried so many creams and oils after having my two children, and this one is effective and feels amazing on the skin. If you want to stop wasting money on creams that won't help firm the skin, you need to try this one from Caudalie. I happen to really love Caudalie products, but I usually can't justify the price tag. This firming cream and the serum I will mention at number 10 are worth the splurge.

3. Origins A Perfect World Age-Defense Treatment Lotion with White Tea ($27)- I am someone that needs skincare products that feel luxurious at the lowest price point as possible. I typically choose to purchase toners that cost $10-15, so this toner from Origins is definitely a splurge for me. However, the Age-Defense Treatment Lotion is one of best toners I have tried so far, and I honestly love to purchase this one whenever I have some extra spending money. From the scent to consistency, this toner has it all, and it is hydrating enough to be used for the 7-skin method. If you are looking for a product that will boost your current skincare routine, I highly recommend this toner from Origins.

4. Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer ($60)- I have been obsessed with the PTR Pumpkin Enzyme Mask for years now. If you can handle glycolic acid treatments, this mask will transform your skin with only one use! The Pumpkin Enzyme mask combines chemical and physical exfoliants to completely resurface the skin, and it smells amazing! I highly recommend using this mask every other week to keep your skin clear and glowing. One warning: this mask contains a high concentration of glycolic acid and it will burn sensitive skin. Please work your way up to using this mask for the full time recommended very slowly and one minute at a time.

5. Korres Wild Rose Brightening Absolute Oil ($54)- I am a huge fan of facial oils, but I am not a fan of their price. I normally purchase the affordable Radha Beauty Argan and Rosehip oils from Amazon, but they are pretty ordinary. If you are looking for an oil that will literally make you glow, you need to try out this Rose based oil from Korres. I have purchased this oil a few times, and I noticed a difference in my skin tone within the first week of use each time. Don't be afraid to use this on oily skin, it is a dry oil that absorbs almost instantly. I love the added aesthetic of the rose petals on the bottom of the bottle. Simply a beautiful product that will blow you away.

6. Erno Laszlo Memory Gel Sleeping Mask ($108)- Okay, we finally got to the most expensive product on my list. Before you skip ahead, try to keep in mind that this sleeping pack will last you at least 6 months and it is truly magical! This sleeping mask is very lightweight and the perfect addition to a Spring/Summer PM routine. From day one of using the Erno Laszlo Sleeping Mask, I woke up with flawless looking skin that felt so smooth and hydrated. I have tried many sleeping masks as a beauty blogger, and this one really stands out in my opinion. Most sleeping masks are either too lightweight or too heavy to be used by all skin types. This mask has a perfect balance and it is especially fantastic for aging skin. If you haven't tried this sleeping mask yet, get it now!

7. Sunday Riley Luna Retinol Sleeping Night Oil ($105)- I promise that this is the last product over $100. I am not a huge fan of Sunday Riley skincare, I honestly think that most products are overpriced, but the Luna Sleeping Oil is the exception. If you are in your late 20's or early 30's, this is one of the best retinol products to start with to help prevent early signs of aging. The Luna Oil doesn't use a high percentage of retinol, so it is great for beginners, and it includes blue tansy oil that will help soothe the skin at the same time. Honestly, I live for this oil and it has a cult following for a good reason. You only need a few drops once a day, so the bottle will last many months. I recommend this splurge!

8. Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Facial Barrier Mask ($6)- After having two products over $100 in a row, I figured you need to see something a lot more affordable. Even though this sheet mask is only $6, it is still a steep price for daily sheet maskers. In my opinion, a sheet mask should cost $1-2 since it is only used once and the ones that cost more are usually just as effective as the more affordable options. However, there are some sheet masks in the high price point range that are actually worth the money. Dr. Jart+ has an entire sheet mask line that is completely overpriced except the Ceramidin sheet mask. This mask is so good that I always pick up 2-3 of them when I have the extra cash. The Ceramidin masks nourishes and strengthens the skin barrier, softens the skin, and helps keep the skin hydrated so well that I think the $6 price tag is worth it. I would recommend using this mask at least every other week for the best results.

9. Lancome Advanced Génifique Hydrogel Melting Mask ($15)- If you thought $6 was a lot of money for a single sheet mask, wait until you hear that the Lancome sheet mask is $15 per mask. When I saw the $15 price tag I was a little shocked. Why would any sheet mask cost that much money? The answer is usually in the material of the sheet itself. Although there are many hydrogel sheet masks on the market for less than $15 each, the Lancome mask is extra special. If you want to treat yourself to a spa day at home, you need to have one of these masks in your sheet mask stash! This mask feels like it is melting into your skin and the serum makes your skin very hydrated and firm. I love to use this mask before applying a full face of makeup for special occasions, it helps all the makeup apply so much easier. If you have an extra $15, treat yourself!

10. Caudalie Vinoperfect Anti Dark Spot Serum ($79)- I wanted to end with one of my favorite serums on the market, the Vinoperfect serum from Caudalie. I received a sample of this serum a few years ago with a Sephora order, and I honestly had no idea how expensive it was. Needless to say, I used up the sample within a week, and I ran to Sephora to purchase the full-sized version. Unfortunately, I was only able to afford two bottles. The full-sized bottles lasted me less than two months each, and I just couldn't spare $80 for one product that often. However, if you have the funds available and you want to literally transform your skin, I highly recommend this serum. I know that I will be getting this serum regularly when I can finally afford it!

>>Final Thoughts<<

So there you have it... my top 10 skincare products that I think are worth the splurge.

If you have enough money in your skincare budget, I highly recommend these products!

Right now with COVID-19 shutdowns, you won't be able to get samples of these products at Sephora, so please read the reviews on the Sephora website before purchasing.
