April 2022 Beauty Favorites + Mini Reviews

Hey Beauty Lovers!

I love seeing monthly beauty favorites on Instagram and YouTube, so I started a Beauty Favorites Series here on my blog.

Every month, I choose 5 products that I loved in both the Skincare and Makeup categories. These products may show up in multiple monthly favorites posts, so don't be surprised if you have seen any of these favorites in the past.

If you are interested in seeing the products that made it into my April Beauty Favorites, this is the post for you!

July 2020 Beauty Favorites

>>Welcome To My Beauty Favorites<<

For my June Beauty Favorites, I only talked about skincare products, so I tried to pick out some makeup for my July Beauty Favorites. Moving forward, I will be picking out both skincare and makeup favorites.

My July favorites consist of the four non-skincare products that I reached for the most during the month. I picked out a foundation, highlighting pencil, eyeshadow palette, and hand cream. The hand cream and palette were purchased in July, but the foundation and pencil have been in my makeup collection for a long time.

I usually try not to pick products that were already featured in a favorites post, but I just had to pick the Lapalette cushion foundation again for July. It is seriously the only foundation that I used last month, and it deserved some recognition again.

Ok, let's get to my favorites from last month...

>>July 2020 Beauty Favorites<<

  • Lapalette Silky Tension Cover Pact (shade 23)- I can't find the cushion with the cover shown in the photo, but I linked to the same product with a different cover. I'm so upset that I missed the super sale on these last month. I have been on a semi-no-buy since October, so I haven't been checking my favorite K-Beauty websites as often as I used to. I absolutely love this cushion foundation. It covers everything effortlessly, but it doesn't look like I am wearing foundation. I definitely have to set this with a powder though.
  • Brompton & Langley Lavender Vanilla Luxurious Hand Cream- I honestly can't find a link to this product. I picked up a handful of these hand creams when I visited Christmas Tree Shops last month, and I am obsessed. I have to go back to the store to stock up before they are all sold out!
  • Bobbi Brown Retouching Face Pencil (Illuminate)- This pencil has been a staple in my makeup bag for years now. I love to use this to highlight the brow bone and the inner corners of my eyes. The pencil lasts forever, I think I only sharpened it once so far!
  • Wet n Wild Color Icon 10-Pan Palette (Nude Awakening)- If you haven't seen these palettes yet, you need to pick one up. They are amazing for the price (under $5 I think), and the color stories are stunning! They can be a little patchy, but I find that Urban Decay shadows are just as patchy. Make sure to take the time to blend the matte shadows and you will look great!
>>Final Thoughts<<

I always post so many skincare favorites each month, so I decided to shift over to makeup for July. I will try to have a mix of skincare and makeup for my August 2020 Beauty Favorites post, so stay tuned!

I will be teaching an in-person class this Fall semester, so I will be using a lot more makeup over the next few months. I plan to start my Shop My Stash makeup posts again in October, so if you are interested in taking a peek at my makeup collection, sign up for my newsletter.

June 2020 Beauty Favorites

>>Welcome To My Beauty Favorites<<

Since I try out a lot of products each month, I like to keep track of my absolute favorites and post them in my Beauty Favorites Series (check out the tab at the top of this page for all my Beauty Favorites posts).

I try not to feature a product for more than one month, but sometimes a product is just extra special. I actually repeat a product in my July 2020 Beauty Favorites post!

I normally try to post a mix of skincare and makeup products, but with the pandemic, I haven't been wearing much makeup. So, I only have skincare products for my June favorites. I promise that this will change for my July favorites!

Anyway, I'm going to keep this intro short and end it here.

Let's get to my June favorites...

>>June 2020 Beauty Favorites<<

  • Rovectin Clean LHA Blemish Ampoule*- I am so impressed with this ampoule! I'm a little disappointed that it only lasted me about a month, but I did use it all over my face daily. This ampoule is a little thick, but it really helped me control breakouts. I highly recommend this for anyone with mild acne or occasional breakouts.
  • Klairs Fundamental Water Gel Cream*- This is the third product that I've tried from Klairs, and I am obsessed! The texture is so watery, but it really is a heavy-duty moisturizer. I am fascinated by this product, and I really want to try the rest of the Fundamental line. This moisturizer is great for normal to oily skin types.
  • Innisfree Lip Sleeping Mask with Green Tea- Forget the overpriced Laniege lip mask, this one is amazing! I use this balm twice a day with my skincare routine, and my lips have never been smoother. I can't wait to try this in the winter!
 >>Final Thoughts<<

That brings us to the end of my June Favorites. I really love all of the products I mentioned in this post.

I'm a little sad that I ran out of the Rovectin ampoule already, but I have it on my wish list for when I make a Wishtrend purchase. Ampoules are very concentrated, so they should be used sparingly. However, I loved how it felt so much that I couldn't help slather it on every day. Please use this product more responsibly than I did!

I hope you enjoyed this favorites post! If you are looking for more content like this, check out the Beauty Favorites Series tab at the top of this page.

May 2020 Beauty Favorites

>>Welcome To My Beauty Favorites<<

Every month I test out quite a few products. Most are skincare, but I will sometimes get some other great beauty products to try.

Since I try so many products, I decided to pick out my favorites each month and tell you why I enjoy them.

A lot of these products were sent to me to review, but I am not obligated to include them in my beauty favorites post, and I honestly think these products are fantastic.

Let's get right to my favorites...

>>May Beauty Favorites<<

  1. Dewytree Hi Amino All Cleanser*- I absolutely love creamy cleansers, and this one from Dewytree is fantastic! I am a little surprised that it's not sold at all the famous K-Beauty online stores, but you can find it using the link I provided. I was sent this cleanser in March, and I only started using it regularly in May. I really like using it as a second cleanser, and I find that my skin feels very soft and hydrated after I rinse the cleanser off. I have quite a few cleansers in my skincare stash, so I will probably only use this one for a few more weeks. Don't worry, I will come back to it soon! For now, you can check out how I use this cleanser in my May 2020 Skincare Routines Update post.
  2. Good Medicine Honey Bee Revelation Mask*- I am such a mask junkie! I actually use masks daily, and people think I'm a little crazy. If you enjoy using masks on a daily basis, it is important to have a few hydrating masks in your mask stash. Using too many clay masks each week can really dry out your skin and cause some skin damage in the process. This Honey based mask is a fantastic hydrating mask option that will also work to heal the skin. It is great for all skin types, including acne-prone skin. This mask is made with natural ingredients, and the honey smells amazing while it's on the skin. I love how soft and smooth my skin feels after I use this mask, and I usually use it at least once a week. I was sent this mask in March, and I have been using it weekly ever since the beginning of May. The mask itself feels extremely sticky, but it actually washes off effortlessly. I highly recommend this mask!
  3. Petitfee Gold Hydrogel Eye Patches- You may remember these eye patches from my May 2020 K-Beauty Haul. These eye patches were fantastic and I really think that they helped hydrate my under eye area really well. I would actually compare them to higher-end eye patches, but they are slightly smaller in shape. That may be due to a difference in Asian and Western face shapes, or it may be a feature of the more affordable patches. Either way, they still work really well. I actually just started using the Black Pearl and Gold version, and I like those a lot too.
  4. Dewytree Pick & Quick Moistful Mask- I purchased these in my May 2020 K-Beauty Haul, and I am so obsessed! These are a great alternative to single packaged sheet masks if you are concerned with environmental waste. I personally enjoy using these every other day and using single packaged masks on the alternate days. This way I get the benefits of the better sheet masks, but I don't have to use them daily. If you are new to sheet masking, you can't afford to sheet mask daily with the single packaged masks, or you are looking to reduce your environmental waste, these are a great option!
>>Final Thoughts<<

Another beauty favorites post full of skincare products! I really do enjoy my skincare routines, so I'm not surprised that my favorites consist of skincare every month.

I promise that I will try to include a non-skincare product in my June 2020 Beauty Favorites post. I actually have tried a few beauty products this month that I know you will enjoy! Follow me on Twitter to receive updates on my future posts.

April 2020 Beauty Favorites

>>Welcome To My Beauty Favorites<<

Every month I test out quite a few products. Most are skincare, but I will sometimes get some other great beauty products to try.

Since I try so many products, I decided to pick out my favorites each month and tell you why I enjoy them.

A lot of these products were sent to me to review, but I am not obligated to include them in my beauty favorites post, and I honestly think these products are fantastic.

Let's get right to my favorites...

>>April Beauty Favorites<<

  1. Medicube Triple Collagen Toner*-  I am so upset that I ran out of this toner so quickly! If you are looking for the softenest skin of your life, you need to use this toner daily. It is a pretty thick toner that I like to layer on top of thinner, exfoliating toners, and you can use 1-3 layers of this toner depending on your skin's hydration levels. I have so many hydrating toners in my skincare stash, but I will be getting this one when I run out of the others. Seriously, this toner is a skin-changer!
  2. InstaNatural 7% Glycolic AHA Toner*- You may already know this, but I am obsessed with Glycolic Acid. Just check out this super old post here, and you will see how long I have been a Glycolic Acid fan. This toner is a great way to get a daily dose of Glycolic Acid without stripping your skin too much. I like to use this toner in the PM, but you can use it at any time of day, and it can be applied with a cotton round or your hands. I don't recommend using this toner on active breakouts, it will sting like crazy when applied to broken skin, but it is great for preventing breakouts. If you are looking for a daily Glycolic Acid treatment, I highly recommend this one from InstaNatural!
  3. EveryDaze Diamond Drop Hydrogel Eye Patches- I started using eye patches daily again, and I cannot believe that I stopped using them for so long! I am a huge advocate for preventative skincare, and eye patches are a great way to keep the under-eye area looking young and smooth. Don't expect a miracle after one use, you need to be using these on a daily basis to see any real benefit. Thankfully, these jars come with 30 pairs, enough for a full month of daily use. I highly recommend these because they are on the larger side, and cover more of the eye area than cheaper eye patches.
>>Final Thoughts<<

All of my favorites in April were skincare products, and they were all fantastic. The only product I haven't used more than once from this list is the Medicube Toner.

I will definitely be getting these products again, and you can already see all of these in my May 2020 Beauty Empties post. Don't be surprised if these show up in another empties post in the future!

March 2020 Beauty Favorites

>>Welcome To My Beauty Favorites<<

Every month I test out quite a few products. Most are skincare, but I will sometimes get some other great beauty products to try.

Since I try so many products, I decided to pick out my favorites each month and tell you why I enjoy them.

A lot of these products were sent to me to review, but I am not obligated to include them in my beauty favorites post, and I honestly think these products are fantastic.

Let's get right to my favorites...

>>March Beauty Favorites<<

  1. R+Co Atlantis Shampoo and Conditioner*- I have pretty damaged hair. I have been bleaching my hair for the last 16 years, and I used to use a flat iron daily in high school. Even with some pretty expensive hair care products from Sephora, I was unable to get my hair back into a healthy state. R+Co reached out to me and asked me if I wanted to try any of their products, so I took them up on their generous offer and ordered the Atlantis Shampoo and Conditioner set. Okay, R+Co is a very expensive company, but you can use them once a week and still get fantastic results. If you are looking for an extremely hydrating shampoo and conditioner set that will reverse years worth of damage, I highly recommend these!
  2. Caudalie Vinosculpt Lift and Firm Body Cream*- As a C-Section mom, I had a really hard time getting my body back into shape after my two pregnancies. We are not allowed to do any abdominal work for two months, and then we have to start very slowly. Due to this, the skin around my midsection needed some help getting firmed up. This firming cream from Caudalie was a lifesaver for me! I love the signature Caudalie scent, and the tub lasts a really long time. This isn't the first firming cream that I've tried, but it is the one that worked the quickest for me. I am going to write a postnatal body care post soon, so follow me on Twitter to get a notification.
  3. Fleur & Bee Prince Charcoal Detox Mask*- I was sent this mask a few months ago, and I started to use it weekly immediately. This is a mud mask that is formulated with Charcoal and Glycolic Acid. I have never seen a product like these on the market before, so I was really excited to try it out. I'm happy to say that I still use this mask every single week because it is fantastic! This mask completely resurfaces my skin and removes dirt from my pores at the same time. It is my official Monday night mask, and I still have 3/4 of the jar left! I highly recommend this mask if you enjoy Glycolic Acid peels.
>>Final Thoughts<<

I enjoyed quite a few non-skincare related products in my favorites for March. From hair care to body care, all of the products I loved in March are still my favorites.

I continue to use the body cream,, shampoo + conditioner set, and the mud mask, and they are still performing as well as when they were first opened.

Don't be surprised if you see these products in an upcoming empties post!

February 2020 Beauty Favorites

>>How I Select My Beauty Favorites<<

Every month, I look at my beauty product collection, and I select the 4-6 products that really impressed me that month.

I try to choose products that are new to my beauty routine, and that usually means that I am selecting skincare products.

You may notice that all the products I chose this month were sent to me in PR. These monthly favorites posts are not sponsored, and I am not obligated to choose anything sent to me for my favorites. I am currently on a no-buy due to being a student, so all of my favorites the last few months were products sent to me for free.

As soon as my no-buy ends, aka I get a real job, my favorites will include products that I purchased with my own money.

I hope this makes sense.

Okay, let's get to my February 2020 favorites...

>>February 2020 Beauty Favorites<<

  • Astis Elderberry Collagen Deep-Hydrating Toner*- I am so obsessed with the scent of this toner! I love collagen in my skincare, and this toner is formulated with 1% collagen. In addition to collagen, this toner contains fruit acids to help brighten the skin and promote cellular turnover. I used this toner in my PM skincare routine for the entire month of February, and my skin loved it! If you want to see my February 2020 skincare routines, check out the Skincare Routines Series tab at the top of this page.
  • Cosrx AC Collection Ultimate Spot Cream*- I was sent the entire AC Collection to review, and the Ultimate Spot Cream is my favorite product from the set. If you have acne-prone skin, this spot treatment will be your new best friend! Whenever I get a spot, I apply a thick layer of this cream overnight and that sucker is flattened by the morning! I am 100% serious about this right now. You can check out my full review of the AC Collection here.
  • Wyldflower Labs Apricot-C Toner*- I have been loving this toner for the last few months. If you are looking for an intense vitamin C treatment that will help give your skin a beautiful glow, this toner is for you. The Apricot-C Toner is formulated with 11% vitamin C, but it will not sting your skin. I'm pretty upset that I ran out of this toner because it is pretty expensive for the size. You can see how I use this toner in my February AM skincare routine.
  • Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Eye Serum*- I was sent the entire Retinol Youth Renewal line, aka all three products, and the eye serum is my new holy grail eye treatment. I honestly think that if you are looking to soften fine lines, you can just use a drop of this serum on any of your problem areas. I basically use this serum as a fine line spot treatment. You can read my full review of the Retinol Youth Renewal line here.

>>Final Thoughts<<

I only had 4 favorites for February, but I honestly just wasn't trying out a lot of new products at the time.

I'm going to be including some makeup products in my March 2020 Beauty Favorites post, so don't forget to follow me on social media!

January 2020 Beauty Favorites

How I Choose My Beauty Favorites

There are a lot of shady things going on in the Beauty Community these days. Can you still trust reviews? Are "influencers" disclosing sponsored content? Are beauty favorites chosen because the brand is paying for their placement in favorites posts?

Blogs are pretty confusing these days and social media is even worse!

That is why I want to break down my process for choosing beauty favorites each month. I want my blog and reviews to be fully transparent. I want you to be able to trust my recommendations. I don't want to be an "influencer". I want to be a friend.

Every month, I put all of the beauty products I used the previous month into a large pile. I then pull out the top 4-6 products that really impressed me, and that is literally how I choose my monthly beauty favorites. If a product is sent in PR, that's great. If I purchased the product myself, that's great too. It's as simple as that!

In the last few months, I have picked out a lot of PR products for my monthly favorites. This is simply due to the fact that I'm on a no-buy. I am still on maternity leave, so I do not have the money to purchase any products on my own right now. That means that I have been mostly using products that were sent to me. When I go back to work, you will start to see a lot less PR in my favorites posts.

January 2020 Beauty Favorites

Yes, all of my favorites for January were sent in PR. No, I did not pick these products to please the brands. I also did not pick these products because I have affiliate links for them. I actually don't have affiliate links for any of my January Favorites! I just love the products!

Let's get right to my favorites...

January 2020 Beauty Favorites:
  • Huangjisoo Sugar No:rinse Cleansing Pads*- This is the second time in a row that I chose the Huangjisoo Pads for my monthly favorites! Last month I talked about the Mugwort Pads, and now I'm going to talk about the micellar cleansing pads. I don't normally advocate for using micellar water without rinsing, but these pads are great for nights that you are just too tired to clean your skin. These pads will remove every trace of makeup and sunscreen without leaving a film on your skin. I don't recommend these for heavy makeup users, but they are great for lighter makeup days. These pads saved my skin from breakouts so many times in January!
  • Fleur & Bee Rose and Shine Refreshing Rose Water Toner*- I love rosewater toners in general. I love the scent and I love how soft they make my skin feel. The Fleur & Bee rose water toner is no exception. It is formulated with rose flower oil and water. That's it, just two ingredients. There is no reason to add anything else to a rose water toner in my opinion, and I love when I find simple formulations. This toner is definitely one of my favorites, but I don't use it every day anymore. These days I use this toner when my skin is starting to feel rough. It really helps soften my skin very quickly.
  • Bellflower Coconut Daily Moisture Cream*- This is the second Bellflower product that I was sent by the brand. They previously sent me their Coconut Serum and it was amazing! I wasn't surprised that I loved the Coconut Moisturizer too. It is very similar to the serum, but it is a lot more hydrating. If you have any issues with coconut in your skincare, skip this moisturizer. My skin loves coconut-based ingredients, but I know that it triggers acne for some people. If your skin can handle coconut, I highly recommend this moisturizer.
  • A'ala Hawaii Vita-B Stem Cell Serum*- A'ala skincare is in my beauty favorites for the third month in a row! I am honestly so impressed with the brand, their products are fantastic! The only complaint I have about A'ala Hawaii is their price range. Fortunately, they are having a sitewide sale right now, so you can get this amazing serum for $45 instead of $75. This serum has a minimal ingredients list and it helps give my skin an amazing glow. I have been using this sparingly because it is so pricey, but hopefully they will have another sale when my no-buy ends!
Final Thoughts

I was lucky enough to have been sent so many great products in the last few months. Most of the products worked out for my skin, but there were a few flops that I will review soon.

Also, I still haven't narrowed down my February favorites! I tested out so many new products and I loved so many of them! I will get it done ASAP, so sign up for my weekly newsletter, you won't want to miss it!

December 2019 Beauty Favorites

Makeup Products Rarely End Up In My Favorites

It's no secret that I spend most of my money and time on my skincare routines. My blog started with my makeup obsession but over the years skincare has become my main focus.

I now have a drawer full of palettes, an overflowing bag of face makeup, and more lippies than ever, but most of them are truly unimpressive. After being a makeup enthusiast for so many years, it takes a lot for a makeup product to impress me, so makeup rarely shows up in my monthly favorites post.

Of course, there have been exceptions (aka Kosas Cosmetics), but I am overall bored with makeup. I have been looking on Sephora's New Makeup section every month, and I am just not interested in anything that has been released recently. Makeup palettes have too much color for my workdays, and I am not wearing foundation anymore.

On the other hand, I am constantly falling in love with new skincare products. My skin loves it when I change up my skincare routines, so my beauty favorites post usually features quite a few skincare products.

That being said, don't be surprised by my skincare only beauty favorites for December 2019!

December 2019 Beauty Favorites

In December, I found a few very hydrating skincare products that my skin loved. Yes, all of my favorites were sent to me through PR, but I have on a no-buy since November so all of my new products have been sent to me.

December 2019 Beauty Favorites:

  • Huangjisoo Mugwort Rescue Soothing Pads*- I was sent all of the Huangjisoo Pads at the end of December, but these Mugwort Rescue Soothing Pads quickly became one of my favorite winter products. Mugwort is a fantastic ingredient for soothing and healing the skin. I like to cut these pads in half and leave each half on my cheeks for 10 minutes to help heal wind-chapped skin. Since I don't use these pads daily, the jar of 60 will last me a very long time. I also love the cartoons on the lid!
  • Nabila K Matcha Love Face Serum*- I actually chose this serum from the Nabila K website when the brand asked if I wanted to try any of their products. The Matcha Love Face Serum is formulated with an amazing blend of oils (Matcha, Rose, and Almond) and botanical extracts. There are actual mini rose petals floating in the oil which I love! This oil is super lightweight, and I love to use it at the end of my PM skincare routine to help seal in moisture overnight. I love waking up to glowing skin every morning!
  • Erno Laszlo Hydra-Therapy Boost Serum*- I just looked up how much this serum costs and I am so sad that I love it! At $108, I'm not sure if I will ever be able to repurchase the Hydra-Therapy Boost Serum. This serum gives me the silkiest skin! It's actually the most unique formula I have ever used, and I am obsessed with how soft it makes my face feel. It's such a shame that it's so expensive! If you can afford the $108 price tag, I highly recommend this serum.
  • A'ala Hawaii Kona Cleanse Face Polish*- A'ala skincare has made its way into my favorites for the second month in a row! In December, I loved using the Kona Cleanse Face Polish in the AM to help exfoliate and brighten my skin. Exfoliation during the winter is a must for me, and the light physical exfoliation from this cleanser was perfect. This cleanser originally retailed for $60, but it's currently on sale for $36 so now is a great time to buy this!

Final Thoughts

I discovered so many amazing skincare products last year and my skin is looking amazing!

I know that I don't select makeup products for my favorites posts very often, but I honestly just haven't found any new makeup products that I love. If you have any new makeup recommendations, let me know! I am looking for a new makeup palette to love, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that the Jeffree Star Cosmetics nude palette blows me away.

My January 2020 Beauty Favorites post is coming up next, so don't forget to subscribe to my weekly newsletter.
