There are a lot of shady things going on in the Beauty Community these days. Can you still trust reviews? Are "influencers" disclosing sponsored content? Are beauty favorites chosen because the brand is paying for their placement in favorites posts?
Blogs are pretty confusing these days and social media is even worse!
That is why I want to break down my process for choosing beauty favorites each month. I want my blog and reviews to be fully transparent. I want you to be able to trust my recommendations. I don't want to be an "influencer". I want to be a friend.
Every month, I put all of the beauty products I used the previous month into a large pile. I then pull out the top 4-6 products that really impressed me, and that is literally how I choose my monthly beauty favorites. If a product is sent in PR, that's great. If I purchased the product myself, that's great too. It's as simple as that!
In the last few months, I have picked out a lot of PR products for my monthly favorites. This is simply due to the fact that I'm on a no-buy. I am still on maternity leave, so I do not have the money to purchase any products on my own right now. That means that I have been mostly using products that were sent to me. When I go back to work, you will start to see a lot less PR in my favorites posts.
January 2020 Beauty Favorites
Yes, all of my favorites for January were sent in PR. No, I did not pick these products to please the brands. I also did not pick these products because I have affiliate links for them. I actually don't have affiliate links for any of my January Favorites! I just love the products!
Let's get right to my favorites...
January 2020 Beauty Favorites:
- Huangjisoo Sugar No:rinse Cleansing Pads*- This is the second time in a row that I chose the Huangjisoo Pads for my monthly favorites! Last month I talked about the Mugwort Pads, and now I'm going to talk about the micellar cleansing pads. I don't normally advocate for using micellar water without rinsing, but these pads are great for nights that you are just too tired to clean your skin. These pads will remove every trace of makeup and sunscreen without leaving a film on your skin. I don't recommend these for heavy makeup users, but they are great for lighter makeup days. These pads saved my skin from breakouts so many times in January!
- Fleur & Bee Rose and Shine Refreshing Rose Water Toner*- I love rosewater toners in general. I love the scent and I love how soft they make my skin feel. The Fleur & Bee rose water toner is no exception. It is formulated with rose flower oil and water. That's it, just two ingredients. There is no reason to add anything else to a rose water toner in my opinion, and I love when I find simple formulations. This toner is definitely one of my favorites, but I don't use it every day anymore. These days I use this toner when my skin is starting to feel rough. It really helps soften my skin very quickly.
- Bellflower Coconut Daily Moisture Cream*- This is the second Bellflower product that I was sent by the brand. They previously sent me their Coconut Serum and it was amazing! I wasn't surprised that I loved the Coconut Moisturizer too. It is very similar to the serum, but it is a lot more hydrating. If you have any issues with coconut in your skincare, skip this moisturizer. My skin loves coconut-based ingredients, but I know that it triggers acne for some people. If your skin can handle coconut, I highly recommend this moisturizer.
- A'ala Hawaii Vita-B Stem Cell Serum*- A'ala skincare is in my beauty favorites for the third month in a row! I am honestly so impressed with the brand, their products are fantastic! The only complaint I have about A'ala Hawaii is their price range. Fortunately, they are having a sitewide sale right now, so you can get this amazing serum for $45 instead of $75. This serum has a minimal ingredients list and it helps give my skin an amazing glow. I have been using this sparingly because it is so pricey, but hopefully they will have another sale when my no-buy ends!
I was lucky enough to have been sent so many great products in the last few months. Most of the products worked out for my skin, but there were a few flops that I will review soon.
Also, I still haven't narrowed down my February favorites! I tested out so many new products and I loved so many of them! I will get it done ASAP, so sign up for my weekly newsletter, you won't want to miss it!
