>>August Skincare Goals<<

I like to start out each month with clear skin goals.

For August, my skin goals were:
> Lightweight Hydration in the AM
> Treat Maskne
> Prevent Retinol Irritation
> Sheet Mask Daily

These are the same goals that I had for the previous month, so a lot of my skincare routine remained the same.

I hope you enjoy this detailed skincare routines update!

>>August 2020 AM Skincare Routine<<

Step 1: Cleanse
Instead of cleansing with water in the AM, I like to use an exfoliating toner on a cotton round in the summer. I have been loving the Heimish Refresh Water for gentle cleansing, and I actually ran out of this product last month. It was relatively inexpensive (the bottle lasted me more than three months with daily use), so I may repurchase it soon.

Step 2: Essence/Toner
If you are new to my blog, you may be wondering why I use so many toners. I like to use the 7-skin method because I get dehydrated skin all year long. The 7-skin method is simply layering hydrating toners 3-7 times. You can use a combination of several toners (1-3 layers each), or you can apply several layers of a single toner. I started with one layer of the Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence, followed up with one layer of the Mother Made All Green Tea-rouble-away Toner* (hydrating + acne prevention), and sealed everything in with one layer of the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner. This combination worked very well for me, and I barely experienced any breakouts all month long due to the Green Tea toner.

Step 3: Serums
I typically use two serums in my skincare routines. I first like to start with a Vitamin C serum. I started to use the Instanatural Multivitamin C Serum* in August, and I'm still using it this month. It looks like I will be running out in a few days, so I will have to start a new Vitamin C serum for November. I really like this serum. It's hydrating and brightening, so I will probably have to purchase this in the future. The second serum that I used in July was the Collagenil Liftensive Perfect Serum*. I absolutely loved this serum! It smelled amazing, was very lightweight, and really helped lift the skin around my face. I'm sad to say that I finished up this serum in August. I need to get my hands on another bottle ASAP.

Step 4: Eye Cream
The skin around my eyes tends to get dehydrated. This in turn causes my fine lines to become more pronounced. I have been reading on many blogs that eye creams are just over-priced moisturizers, so I decided to skip the eye cream in July. Big mistake. The fine lines around my eyes got a lot deeper during July, so I went back to using an eye cream for August. In the AM, I like to use an eye cream with caffeine. The Leven Rose Coffee Eye Lift Cream* is a fantastic option for the mornings. It is lightweight but very hydrating. It also comes in a huge jar that will last at least half a year with daily use. I can honestly say that I love it!

Step 5: Moisturizer
I decided to try a new moisturizer in August. For an AM moisturizer, I look for a lightweight formula that will sink into the skin and give my skin a boost of nutrition. The Merlot Moisturizer* is packed with grape antioxidants. It has been the perfect moisturizer for my skin the last few months, and I am not even close to halfway through the jar. I am seriously impressed with this one!

Step 6: Sunscreen
As always, the final step of any morning skincare routine should be sunscreen. I cannot stress the importance of using sunscreen 365 days a year enough. All the skincare you apply will be for nothing if you don't apply sunscreen every single day. The sunscreen that I have been loving the last few months is the Rovectin Aqua Soothing UV Protector*. Unfortunately, this sunscreen leaves a very obvious white cast. I personally enjoy the white cast because my skin is very pale and it actually evens out my skin tone. The formula is also very hydrating which is unexpected for a physical sunscreen. If you don't mind a white cast, I definitely recommend this one!

>>August 2020 PM Skincare Routine<<

Step 1: Double Cleanse
I always wear sunscreen, so I must double cleanse in the evening. Even if you don't wear makeup, double cleansing is the best way to break down sunscreen. You will see a major difference in the clarity of your skin if you adopt the double cleansing method. In August, I started with the 2NDesign First Cleansing Oil*. It is one of my absolute favorite cleansing oils, and I am pretty upset that I only have half a bottle left. If you are looking for a very lightweight oil cleanser that emulsifies effortlessly, this is the one for you. I have even used it to break down a full face of makeup! I do want to mention that my friend told me that it doesn't work well for waterproof mascara. I don't use waterproof mascara, but keep that in mind if you do. After cleansing with the oil cleanser, I followed up with the Collagenil Detergente Restitutivo*. This is a very milky, non-foaming cleanser. It is very hydrating and I love how clean my skin feels after I wash my face with it. The tube lasts a very long time, so I highly recommend this one!

Step 2: Essence/Toner
I use the same essence and toners as my AM routine. Check out my description for this step in the AM routine section.

Step 3: Sheet Mask
I am an absolute sheet mask addict. I like to sheet mask daily, and I have quite an impressive sheet mask collection. If you want to see the masks that I used in August, check out the Empties Series tab at the top of this page.

Step 4: Serums
Again, I like to use two serums for each routine. For the PM, I started with the Instanatural Niacinamide Serum*. This is one of my favorite serums to use when my skin is feeling a little congested. Between the constant mask wearing and the heat, my skin was not very happy. Luckily, I had this serum in my stash. The second serum that I used in July was the Collagenil Bio Longevity Serum*. Unlike the Collagenil serum from my AM routine, the Bio Longevity Serum is thick and has a strong scent. I absolutely loved how smooth this made my skin. I saved it for the PM because of how the thick the formula felt on my skin, but it was perfect overnight. I highly recommend this one!

Step 5: Eye Cream
Like I mentioned in my AM routine, I really had to start using an eye cream again. For the PM, I really enjoy thicker eye creams, so I used the GoopGenes All-in-One Nourishing Eye Cream*. This eye cream was pretty good and I'm still using it for October. A little goes a very long way, so don't get turned off by the price.

Step 6: Moisturizer
Since I started using retinol, I like to use a very nourishing cream for my PM routine. I loved using the Beekman1802 Bloom Cream Probiotic Moisturizer* so much. It has a pretty strong, off-putting milk scent, but it disappears pretty quickly and worth it. This cream is so rich and hydrating, it really helped avoid irritation from the retinol. I highly recommend this one if you have dry or dehydrated skin.

Step 7: Retinol
And now for the star of the show, my retinol. The only proven topical treatment for fine lines and wrinkles is retinol. I finally started using retinol and I am very impressed. I have been using the No7 Advanced Retinol 1.5% Complex Night Concentrate* and it is one of the gentlest formulas I have ever tried. I experienced very little irritation and my skin adapted to the high percentage of retinol pretty quickly. Best of all, my fine lines have finally faded after a few months of consistent use! I highly recommend this one for any retinol beginners out there.

Step 8: Sleeping Mask
I always like to end my PM skincare routine with a sleeping mask. These always help my skin stay hydrated overnight, and I always wake up with dewy skin. I have been loving the Dearpacker Mas Cream* so much these last few months. I am finally emptying the tub this month, and I will have to find a replacement.
