I like to start out each month with clear skin goals.
For July, my skin goals were:
> Lightweight Hydration in the AM
> Treat Maskne
> Prevent Retinol Irritation
> Sheet Mask Daily
In NY we get crazy heat waves in July, so I was basically in survival mode trying to keep my skin happy through the month.
I hope you enjoy this detailed skincare routines update!
>>July 2020 AM Skincare Routine<<
Step 1: Cleanse
Instead of cleansing with water in the AM, I like to use an exfoliating toner on a cotton round in the summer. I have been loving the Heimish Refresh Water for gentle cleansing, and I actually ran out of this product last month. It was relatively inexpensive (the bottle lasted me more than three months with daily use), so I may repurchase it soon.
Step 2: Essence/Toner
If you are new to my blog, you may be wondering why I use so many toners. I like to use the 7-skin method because I get dehydrated skin all year long. The 7-skin method is simply layering hydrating toners 3-7 times. You can use a combination of several toners (1-3 layers each), or you can apply several layers of a single toner. In July, I needed to add a treatment toner to this step due to a more oily skin type in the summer. I started with one layer of the Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence, followed up with one layer of the Cosrx AC Collection Calming Liquid Mild* (hydrating + acne prevention), and sealed everything in with one layer of the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner. This combination worked very well for me, and I barely experienced any breakouts all month long.
Step 3: Serums
I typically use two serums in my skincare routines. I first like to start with a Vitamin C serum. In July I used the By Wishtrend Pure Vitamin C 15% with Ferulic Acid Serum*. I really liked the serum a lot, but the packaging was a little faulty. This caused the cap to constantly open and the product oxidized in a month. I still had half a bottle left, so maybe if you use this serum twice a day, you will be able to use it up before the oxidation occurs. The second serum that I used in July was the Collagenil Liftensive Perfect Serum*. I absolutely loved this serum! It smelled amazing, was very lightweight, and really helped lift the skin around my face. I'm sad to say that I finished up this serum in August. I need to get my hands on another bottle ASAP.
Step 4: Moisturizer
After serums, I always apply a moisturizer. Some people feel that their skin is fine without one, but I don't agree. Even those with oily skin can benefit from a very lightweight moisturizer, such as the Klairs Fundamental Water Gel Cream*. This moisturizer has the most unique texture that I have ever seen. It is basically a liquid moisturizer that deeply hydrates even dry skin. I highly recommend it for oily skin and the summer months. I took a break from using this moisturizer for the last two months, but I came right back to it this month. It's so good that I can't stay away!
Step 5: Sunscreen
As always, the final step of any morning skincare routine should be sunscreen. I cannot stress the importance of using sunscreen 365 days a year enough. All the skincare you apply will be for nothing if you don't apply sunscreen every single day. The sunscreen I loved in July was the Klairs Mid Day Blue UV Shield*. This sunscreen is actually blue! If you have deeper skin tones, I'm sorry to say that this one does leave a white cast. However, if you wear makeup, I highly recommend checking this one out anyway. I love that the sunscreen is super lightweight, not greasy at all, and formulated with blue tansy. How cool is that? I sadly finished up this sunscreen, but I will be getting this again in the future.
>>July 2020 PM Skincare Routine<<
Step 1: Double Cleanse
I always wear sunscreen, so I must double cleanse in the evening. Even if you don't wear makeup, double cleansing is the best way to break down sunscreen. You will see a major difference in the clarity of your skin if you adopt the double cleansing method. In July, I started with the 2NDesign First Cleansing Oil*. It is one of my absolute favorite cleansing oils, and I am pretty upset that I only have half a bottle left. If you are looking for a very lightweight oil cleanser that emulsifies effortlessly, this is the one for you. I have even used it to break down a full face of makeup! I do want to mention that my friend told me that it doesn't work well for waterproof mascara. I don't use waterproof mascara, but keep that in mind if you do. After cleansing with the oil cleanser, I followed up with the Collagenil Detergente Restitutivo*. This is a very milky, non-foaming cleanser. It is very hydrating and I love how clean my skin feels after I wash my face with it. The tube lasts a very long time, so I highly recommend this one!
Step 2: Essence/Toner
I use the same essence and toners as my AM routine. Check out my description for this step in the AM routine section.
Step 3: Sheet Mask
I am an absolute sheet mask addict. I like to sheet mask daily, and I have quite an impressive sheet mask collection. If you want to see the masks that I used in July, check out the Empties Series tab at the top of this page.
Step 4: Serums
Again, I like to use two serums for each routine. For the PM, I started with the Rovectin LHA Blemish Ampoule* to help keep my skin clear during the July heat waves. This ampoule is so soothing which is pretty rare for an acne treatment product. The only downside is that the bottle runs up within a month if you use it all over your face daily. Alternatively, you can use this as a spot treatment and it will last a lot longer. The second serum that I used in July was the Collagenil Bio Longevity Serum*. Unlike the Collagenil serum from my AM routine, the Bio Longevity Serum is thick and has a strong scent. I absolutely loved how smooth this made my skin. I saved it for the PM because of how the thick the formula felt on my skin, but it was perfect overnight. I highly recommend this one!
Step 5: Moisturizer
Since I started using retinol, I like to use a very nourishing cream for my PM routine. I loved using the Beekman1802 Bloom Cream Probiotic Moisturizer* so much. It has a pretty strong, off-putting milk scent, but it disappears pretty quickly and worth it. This cream is so rich and hydrating, it really helped avoid irritation from the retinol. I highly recommend this one if you have dry or dehydrated skin.
Step 6: Retinol
And now for the star of the show, my retinol. The only proven topical treatment for fine lines and wrinkles is retinol. I finally started using retinol and I am very impressed. I have been using the No7 Advanced Retinol 1.5% Complex Night Concentrate* and it is one of the gentlest formulas I have ever tried. I experienced very little irritation and my skin adapted to the high percentage of retinol pretty quickly. Best of all, my fine lines have finally faded after a few months of consistent use! I highly recommend this one for any retinol beginners out there.
Step 7: Sleeping Mask
I always like to end my PM skincare routine with a sleeping mask. These always help my skin stay hydrated overnight, and I always wake up with dewy skin. I have been loving the Dearpacker Mas Cream* so much these last few months. I am finally emptying the tub this month, and I will have to find a replacement.
>>Final Thoughts<<
