>> Huxley Skincare <<
If you were ever wondering about the luxury skincare brand Huxley, you have come to the right place.
The first time I saw Huxley sheet masks for sale, I wondered who in their right mind would spend $10 on a single mask. There are so many affordable sheet masks on the market, and there are plenty that claim to be brightening and inspired by nature. What makes Huxley so special and why should I spend so much money on their products?
Huxley built their brand around a single ingredient from the Sahara Desert, prickly pear extract.
Prickly Pear is a fruit from the cactus family with a huge list of skin benefits. The extract helps with anti-aging, calming inflammation, brightening the skin, smoothing the skin, healing the skin, wound repair, and protect the skin from UV light.
Huxley products are formulated with Prickly Pear Seed Oil and Cactus Extracts to help the skin reach its optimal condition. Each product is designed to smooth and nourish the skin with minimal effort.
I was kindly sent a sampling of popular Huxley products to test, and I have quite a few opinions*.
>> Secret of Sahara Mask: Glow and Brightness <<
The featured product sent to me was a box of three Secret of Sahara Masks in Glow and Brightness.
It was a nice surprise to receive a full box of sheet masks, and the first thing I noticed was the luxe packaging. If you are going to be spending more than $3 per mask, the packaging better be luxurious to the max.
The Secret of Sahara Masks come in a transparent packet with two chambers. The top chamber holds the white sheet and a clear essence. The bottom chamber also holds a clear oil. Before opening the packet, you need to fold up the bottom half and push all of the oil into the top chamber. Once the two liquids meet, they form a milky essence that coats the sheet mask.
To be honest, it was quite difficult to get the bottom chamber to pop, but it was fun to smoosh around the milky essence in the cleat packet. I like when sheet masks come with the serum/essence in a different compartment than the sheet, it ensures that the mask is fresh every time.
Once the mask is coated in essence, you can open the packet and apply the mask to the skin. I like to leave the mask on for about 20 minutes, and I then pat in the extra essence.
The essence smells AMAZING! Apparently, Huxley works with a fancy Swiss fragrance company for their signature scent. If you don't like scented skincare, I would skip this mask. If you don't mind fragrance, get ready for a treat!
The sheet mask clings to the skin so well and the essence feels so nourishing. I definitely feel like it helps soften and smooth out my skin, but the brightening effect is unreal! My face looks so luminous for a whole day after using this mask, so I highly recommend using it before makeup application.
Do you need this mask?
No. In general, sheet masks are not a necessity. However, if you love sheet masks, and you are looking to splurge on a luxe treatment, I definitely recommend this mask.
>> Travel Set <<
Huxley was kind enough to send me a travel set of their other products. The travel size was big enough to last me a month, and they really came in handy for my last hospital stay.
I packed all of the Huxley minis sent to me in my hospital bag, and they kept my skin looking flawless after my C-Section!
Products Included:
- Cleansing Oil; Deep Clean, Deep Moist
- Cleansing Foam; Deep Clean, Deep Moist
- Toner; Extract It
- Cream; Fresh and More
- Cream; Anti-Gravity
- Scrub Mask; Sweet Therapy
- Healing Mask; Keep Calm
- Sleep Mask; Good Night
This was just a regular cleansing oil formulated with Prickly Pear Seed Oil. It worked well, but I don't think it is worth the price ($48 for the full size). It was easy to get off the skin, and it definitely helped remove my sunscreen, but there are a lot of cheaper alternatives that do the same thing. Don't waste your money with this product.
Again, there was nothing really that special about this cleanser. The price isn't outrageous though ($25 for the full size), so it may be worth it for the scent. It did keep my skin from drying out, so it may be a good option for more mature or dry skin types.
Okay, this is an amazing toner. I was trying to find something wrong with this product, but the only thing I hate is the price ($32 for the full size). This toner is AMAZING. It is so hydrating, and it completely revitalizes my skin. You can use this toner on dull, flaking, red, irritated skin, and you will see a major difference with just one use! I'm not even exaggerating. I think I may actually have to purchase this toner!
This is a pretty lightweight, gel-type moisturizer. I enjoyed using this in the AM, but it was nothing special. For the price ($35 for the full size), you can do better. I would pass on this one. Invest in the toner instead.
This one is a pretty heavy cream moisturizer. It was okay, but nothing really special. It seems like this cream has been discontinued by Huxley, but it is still available for $28.41 at Yesstyle. I would say pass on this one too.
This was a fantastic mask! I absolutely loved this scrub, and it is one of the only products that help keep my skin from getting crusty in the hospital! The texture of this scrub mask is so unique, and I love how well it polishes the skin. It is very gentle, so don't worry about using it on sensitive skin. I think the price is a little high ($32 for the full size), but you only use the mask once a week so it should last a while. I still have some left in the travel tube, but I may end up purchasing the full size soon.
Honestly, I would only recommend buying this mask if you have damaged skin. This is a very calming mask, and it would be great for healing the skin, but it definitely isn't a must-have. If you can spare $32 and you are looking for a great calming mask, I would say get this one. If you don't need it, don't get it.
Okay, everyone needs this mask in their life. I am absolutely OBSESSED with this sleeping pack. Not only does it smell super relaxing, but this mask will also completely soften your skin overnight. This mask is worth every penny ($28 for the full size), and I will be purchasing this mask for the rest of my life. I think this mask was the best thing in the Huxley package if I'm going to be honest!
>> Final Thoughts <<
I really did enjoy the products that Huxley sent my way. Some were out of this world and some were pretty average.
I 100% recommend getting the toner and the sleeping pack. Those two products are a must-have for me, and I will be purchasing the full-sized products very soon.
If you have the money to spare, I would also recommend the sheet masks, scrub, and calming mask. All three are great products, but they aren't holy-grail status.
I would honestly skip all the other products mentioned. For the price, they just aren't worth it. There are plenty of other more affordable options that I would recommend over any of them.
