We finally saw some warm weather in April! NY weather is so unpredictable, and we had days that reached 80F followed by snow days. What a rollercoaster of a season!
With all of the states shutting down, I have been taking my self-care, aka skincare routine, very seriously. I make sure to go through my skincare routine twice a day, and I try to use as many sheet masks as possible.
Since we had quite a few snow days in April, I decided to continue with my hydrating routines. I added a Glycolic Acid Toner that I was sent to review, and it hasn't been irritating my skin at all.
My ultimate goal for April was to maintain my flawless looking skin. I still wanted to avoid acne and dry skin, but I switched to only washing my face once a day. I felt like cleansing twice a day stripped my skin too much.
Interested in my April AM and PM skincare routine? Keep reading!
>>April 2020 AM Skincare Routine<<
1. Exfoliating Toner: Instead of using a cleanser, I used the Heimish Refresh Water. This is basically a Beauty Water alternative, and it can be used as a cleansing water. I would only use a cleansing water for the AM since I don't have any dirt or sunscreen to remove in the morning. I apply the Refresh Water with a cotton round. Using a new cotton round, I then apply the InstaNatural 7% Glycolic Acid Toner*. If you are looking for an affordable, daily glycolic acid treatment, I highly recommend this one.
2. Hydrating Essence/Toner: A huge part of my skincare routine is hydration in layers. This includes the 7 skin method. I introduced this duo in my March 2020 Skincare Routines Update, and I loved it so much that I continued to use these two products in April. First, I apply 4 layers of the Medicube Triple Collagen Toner*. This toner is technically an essence, and it gives me beautifully hydrated skin. The bottle is pretty small, but I use 4 layers twice a day, and the bottle has lasted me about three months. I then apply 3 layers of the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner. This toner is great for adding an intense dose of hydration, but you have to follow up with a moisturizer to keep all the hydration in your skin.
3. Serum: I always include a serum in my skincare routines. They provide the skin with a nice boost of revitalizing ingredients, and I cannot live without them! To help keep my pores small and clear, I like to use the InstaNatural Niacinamide Serum*. I have gone through two bottles of this serum, and I am still loving it! It's almost time for a restock, so you will see it again in a future skincare routines update.
4. Eye Cream: Retinol is my go-to for fine lines. I have quite a few lines around my eyes, so I have been using the Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Eye Serum* in the morning and evening. This eye serum is pretty expensive, but if you have the money, I would recommend it. I definitely can't afford to buy this treatment regularly, so I will try to find a more affordable alternative. You can read my review for the Murad Retinol Youth Renewal line here.
5. Moisturizer: I like to use a lightweight moisturizer during the daytime, and the Cosrx AC Collection Lightweight Soothing Moisturizer* is great for helping control oil production. If you have very oily skin, you may like this moisturizer in the AM and PM. You can read my review for the Cosrx AC Collection line here.
6. Sunscreen: As always, the last step in the AM is sunscreen. The Australian Gold Botanical Tinted Sunscreen is my holy grail sunscreen, and my whole family now uses it! I have been using this sunscreen for the last three years (at least), and I don't plan on switching any time soon.
>>April 2020 PM Skincare Routine<<
1. Double Cleanse: As a daily sunscreen addict, I need to double cleanse to fully remove all traces of my sunscreen at the end of the day. I start with the Manyo Factory Pure Cleansing Oil* and I follow up with the A'ala Hawaii Kona Cleanse Face Polish*. I really love this duo right now. The cleansing oil is nourishing and the face polish provides gentle exfoliation. I am still using this duo in May, but I am almost out of the face polish. I will have to decide if I can afford to purchase the face polish next month.
2. Exfoliating Toner: Again, I use the InstaNatural 7% Glycolic Acid Toner* after cleansing in the PM. See my AM routine for more details.
3. Hydrating Essence/Toner: For my PM routine, I start with a layer of the Astis Elderberry Collagen Deep Hydrating Toner*. I then apply 3 layers of the Medicube Triple Collagen Toner* and 3 layers of the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner. I know that my photo is a little out of order, I'm not sure why that happened!
4. Sheet Mask: I don't always use a sheet mask, but when I do, I use one at this step in my routine. I will be posting my April 2020 Sheep Mask Empties next week, so I will come back to add but link when the post goes live. You can find other sheet mask recommendations in the Skincare Reviews Series and Empties Series tabs at the top of this page.
5. Serum: Of course, I use a serum in the evening too. I like to use the InstaNatural Anti-Aging Collagen Serum* in the PM, because it is a thick hydrating serum. I'm not sure about the anti-aging benefits, because I use so many anti-aging products. I have no idea if any of the products are actually helping my skin age slower, but I will never stop using them!
6. Eye Cream: I use the Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Eye Serum* in the PM too, Check out my AM routine for my thoughts on this treatment.
7. Moisturizer: Since I ran out of my sleeping mask and I didn't purchase a new one yet, I use two moisturizers for the PM. The first is the Bellflower Coconut Daily Moisture Cream*, which is a great medium-weight moisturizer. My skin can tolerate coconut-based products, but you should stay away from this moisturizer if you break out from coconut water. I then follow up with the amazing Dewytree Hyaluron Melting-Chou Cream. The Dewytree cream is thick and nourishing, perfect for my nighttime routine. I need to restock this cream when it goes back on sale.
>>Final Thoughts<<
I am pretty happy with my April skincare routines, but I am running very low on some of the products. You will see a few changes in my May skincare routines update post, but not too many.
I will be adding eye patches back into my routine this month, and I purchased a box of daily sheet masks that I will be using. I hope the daily sheet masks end up working, they are a lot less wasteful than the individually packaged sheet masks. I guess we will see what I think in my next routines update!
